Our youth team suffered the first defeat of the season losing 2-0 to Kirkop United both goals were scored from a dead ball situation in the first period. The first half was played at a frantic pace and clashes were in abundance. Goalmouth action from open play was rare and keepers were rarely called to execute top drawer saves. Kirkop took the lead after ten minutes when a lateral freekick was played short outside the box with the ball hitting the upright before ending in the net. At the other end, Gove tested the keeper with a low shot from a freekick which was saved on the ground. In the 29th minute, Scerri was given no chance as another direct freekick sailed to the top left corner for Kirkop’s second. In the second period, the game became more technical with flashes of good football but scoring opportunities were at a premium. From an Owen Galea corner, Pulo headed just wide and Scerri produced a magnificent save off another direct freekick from distance.
