Scorer: 90+4′ Owen Galea
The Under 19s were defeated 2-1 by runaway leaders Kirkop U on the midweek fixture. The first half was a tense affair with numerous contacts which exceeded the limits but which in most times went unpunished. On the 6th minute, our defense failed to clear and Bartolo had to stop the attack with his outstretched left leg. Kirkop opened the score line when a shot was deflected by Pulis and unfortunately deceived Bartolo in goal. Fgura went close in the 36th minute when Muscat fed the ball in the box, which fell to the unmarked Stivala but his shot was deflected to a corner. Upon the restart Kirkop doubled the score; following a good move down their right flank with the shot hitting the upright before ending in goal. At the other end Muscat was denied by the keeper with our keeper Bartolo too turning to a corner another attempt. Fgura were unlucky not to score as the goalkeeper missed a freekick with skipper Desira, playing with a broken nose from the first half, saw his try within a crowded box, missing the target. As the game became more attractive, with both sets of players finding more space to operate in, Bartolo stole the show with another three fine stops. At the other end Muscat penetrated in the box but his shot was deflected against the cross bar and cleared away to safety. Our lads had to continue the game with 10 men as Bartolo was stretchered away after a nasty collision before being rushed away to hospital. With all allowed stops made, Desira took the keeper’s role. Despite playing with a man down, our lads managed to score when Galea connected to a Bezzina cross on the second post and fired home on the volley. We wish a speedy recovery to the unfortunate Benjamin Bartolo.
