Scorers: Rafael Conrado Prudente 13′, Dylan Caruana 56′
The seniors practically secured another season in the Challenge League when a direct encounter between two mid-table sides ended in a 2-1 victory over Qrendi. Fgura had to overturn the result as they went one down as early as the second minute as Qrendi capitalized on our indecision. However, it took us just 11 minutes to draw level when a Matthew Brincat freekick was parried by the keeper with Jeremy Micallef getting first on the rebound to serve Prudente to tap in from close range. Fgura kept the pressure on the opponents with Dylan Caruana displaying some good footwork concluding with a shot just wide. Caruana and Quintero exchanged the ball with the former pushing forward but the ball hits the upright and goes out. Qrendi were reduced to ten men late in the half but still, they forced a corner with the ball dangerously in the box with keeper Moore called to block another corner from a close-range shot. Just before the halftime whistle Quintero was again in the thick of things first with a shot that just missed the target and later from a freekick that thumped the crossbar. The second half continued on the same pattern with Jeremy Micallef feeding Shawn Borg on the run with a well-timed pass, but the shot was blocked by the keeper. In the 56th minute, Fgura took the lead when Quintero was picked up on the second post from a Prudente cross, with the Colombian squaring to Dylan Caruana who scored with a shot on the first post. Qrendi’s responded with a break which called Moore to block again. In injury time, Qrendi was close to an equaliser with a lobbed header that ended on the top of the bar. At the other end, a Thomas Grech deflected shot hit the upright with Prudente scoring from the rebound from an offside position and the goal got disallowed. Three vital points for the boys in red.
