Scorers: Dylan Caruana 12’, own goal 35’, Rafael C Prudente 65’

In the penultimate game of the season, our lads defeated relegated Senglea A 3-2 on the Monday night fixture. Fgura took 12 minutes to break the deadlock, skipper Ciantar crossing to Dylan Caruana who controlled and shot on the first post. At the other end, Azzopardi saved on the first upright. Quintero laid back to Thomas Grech who concluded high with a Senglea corner having the same outcome when it was headed just over the woodwork. Caruana’s sterling job on the flank ended with a cross for Prudente on the first post who headed the ball which was turned into his own net by an Athletic defender. Prudente again soared high again before the break only to head just wide off a Quintero cross. Senglea surprised us after restarting with two goals in quick succession, the first after the mayhem in front of the goal and soon after when they made the most of an opening created in the heart of our defense. Fgura took command again of the game and went close when Quintero crossed to Caruana who concluded wide with the Colombian later serving Prudente who was denied when the ball was turned to a corner. Micallef’s good work in the box followed by an inviting cross to Prudente who had the easiest of tasks to put home to restore our lead. Prudente was again in the thick of things when he was denied by a good save by the keeper kept out a strong header off a Jeremy Cassar cross. Gabriel Borg then served Prudente again but this time around he sent wide from an ideal position. Caruana could have rounded the issue late in the game but his two attempts were kept out.
